Subject Creating the driver friendly intelligent care
Programme summary
Automobiles have been through a major evolution during the last century. With the evolution of cars, the human mind is pressured to develop faster reaction times. Automobile manufacturers have recognised that human error is the main cause of road accidents. Technology can help the human driver to resolve this problem.

Technology

The car of the future potentially already exists today. Ingcreasingly a concept of active safety is emerging. Interactive technology can connect the vehicle to the surroundings by means of sensors and radars.

Interaction between Car and Driver

Technology is ready, but people need to understand and accept its applications. People will have to adapt to a car that actually makes decisions, they will need to interact succesfully.
An efficient way to help the evolution is to test them with driving simulations.

Driving Simulator

With the support of the European Commission, a driving simulator featuring the smart car of the future has been developed.
With the simulator, researchers assess the response of the driver.
An evaluation of the data will help develop the right technology, taking into account not only the reality on the road, but also the drivers psychology in order to increae safety.

Conclusion

The cars of the future will be based on an optimal use of technology which will take full account of the human dimension.
