Programme summary
Pendulum and pipes ! Inspired by these two instruments, Alain Clement, researcher at the Fluids mechanics laboratory at the Central school of Nates, conceived Searev (Système Electrique Autonome de Récupération de l'Energie des Vagues). This machine is aimed at transforming into electricity the waves’ energy, also called heave-force. One of Searev’s units should contribute to the production of 500kW of electricity, sufficient in order to supply at least 200 homes on land.
With his team, Alain Clément, test a prototype on a 1/12 scale in a basin in which the heave is re-created artificially. A second testing phase, forecasted for 2008-2009 will pertain to the designing, construction and testing at sea of a full scale prototype.
