Subject CO2 absorption capacity of the oceans in the frame of climatic change
Programme summary
The concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere has increased by 30% over the last two centuries and has reached levels unsurpassed in the last 650 000 years. Today, the challenges associated with implementing the Kyoto protocol to reduce greenhouse gas emissions seem insurmountable which makes it essential to consider other alternatives. Some are based on the idea of boosting the ocean’s natural capacity to absorb carbon dioxide. Others call upon new technologies to capture and store CO2 deep in the ocean. But what would be the price to pay for all this?
