This documentary was produced in connection with the Salzburg Seminar session 398 “Achieving Food Security through Community-Based Food Systems,” sponsored by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. It explores the responses to hunger and poverty in rural vilages in South Africa, and the efforts being made to develop a sustainable system of agriculture.

This short documentary was made to develop awareness of one of the worst crimes happening in Africa today; the systematic rape of women and girls in undeveloped regions.In this, the first of several short films, the project was to create a small series of surgical training videos documenting vesico-vaginal fistula (VVF) repair, the most common procedure performed at DOCS on any given day.

Ashray, one of the project organizations that makes up the Committed Communities Development Trust, is Bombay’s first home for children who have either been infected or affected by HIV. The children at Ashray are there because their parents are unable to provide for them and often are very sick or have passed away. This documentary is about moving forward through loss and the creation of a new, communal family.
